When you read and write well, the job possibilities are endless. As a Carson-Newman English major, you’ll develop excellence in written and verbal communication skills and learn problem-solving through analytical and critical reading and writing. In small upper-level classes, you’ll find individual attention from our expert faculty who bring diverse and wide-ranging interests to the department. 

The emphasis in literature challenges you through rigorous coursework to read text insightfully with personal application. The emphasis in creative writing exposes you not only to craft and techniques important to original written expression, but also immerses you as a creative thinker through primary courses in literature and theory which help you understand your own role in literary history.
